Getting to the Athens City Center from the Airport

The new International Airport of Athens in Spata opened on Wednesday March 29th 2001 (https://www.aia.gr/).

A map of the route from the airport to the center of Athens (station Omonia) can be found from HERE.

More detailed information on how to get to Athens from the airport can be found from HERE.

The different ways to get to the center of the city from the airport are the following:

By taxi - A taxi from the airport is available 24hours a day and should cost you around 30 euros to the center. More information about the airport taxi service can be found from HERE.

By bus - There are three bus lines to and from the airport. All buses depart from the designated area on the inner curbside of the arrivals level of the Main Terminal Building exactly outside the Exit (doors 4-5):

ONLY for Express Lines X94-X95-X96, the ticket costs 2,90 euros and is valid for only ONE trip from or to the airport. You can buy tickets from the bus driver, all metro stations and public transport ticket outlets. More information about the bus and trolley services can be found from HERE.

By metro - From the airport you can also take Athens metro and reach the Katehaki metro station which is very near to the NTUA campus. From Katechaki metro station you can take a taxi or wait for the bus 242 which take you inside NTUA or the bus 140 which leaves you outside Kokkinopoulou Gate. Tickets cost 0.7 euros for every route except to and from the airport, which cost 6 euros or 10 euros also for the return trip. You can also take group tickets for 2 persons (single fare costs 10 euros) and for 3 persons (single fare costs 15 euros). Metro trains run from 5.00am to 0.30am every 30 minutes. More information can be found from the websites of Attiko Metro and Athens International Airport. The Athens metro map can be found from HERE.

By suburban railway - There is also suburban railway, which you can take from the airport. You can go to the Doukissis Plakentias metro station in order to take the metro, so it is better to just take the metro from the airport, the tickets cost the same. More information about the suburban railway can be found from HERE.
