Welcome to MONAMI 2013!

It gives us great pleasure to welcome you to the Fifth International ICST Conference on Mobile Networks and Management (MONAMI) held in Cork, Ireland on 23-25 September 2013. MONAMI 2013 aims at bringing together leading researchers from around the world to address and discuss current challenges in the area of Mobile Network Management.

The program of this year includes 18 groundbreaking paper presentations from the regular track which were selected after a stringent peer-review process which had, at least, 3 different reviews per paper; furthermore there is a co-located special session on Future Research Directions, featuring 4 papers with exciting new ideas and reporting on initial project results. MONAMI 2013 will also feature high-level keynote speakers: Mischa Dohler of King’s College London with the talk entitled “Machine-to-Machine in Smart Cities & Smart Grids: Vision, Technologies & Applications”, and Linda Doyle of Trinity College Dublin, with the keynote “Spectrum without Bounds, Networks without Borders”. In addition, the conference will start with two tutorials provided by reputable experts: “ZigBee wireless sensor and control network” by Ataollah Elahi (Southern Connecticut State University, USA) and “Building software radio systems with Iris” by Paul Sutton (CTVR, the Telecommunications Research Centre, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland).

Cork is city of approximately 150,000 people that sits on the River Lee and at the head of Cork Harbour, the second biggest natural harbour in the world. Cork is a renowned place of learning with two higher education institutions, research centres, and a range of specialised education colleges. It is one of the biggest pharmaceutical producing regions in the world with many leading names located here, its is also a centre of technology with many of the world's largest ICT companies choosing Cork as the location for their European headquarter, including Apple and EMC.

Cork is a historic, creative, exciting, ever-changing city. It is the food capital of Ireland and the gateway to the South West or Ireland, one of the most beautiful parts of the country. It is a great location for hosting a conference. For MONAMI 2013 we are combing many of the virtues of Cork, its reputation for learning and research, its beautiful setting on the South coast of Ireland and its reputation for fine food. The conference programme, as a result of this combines the presentation of existing new research with a social programme including dinner in one the most stunning settings on the South coast.

We are delighted to welcome you to Cork and we hope you will enjoy both the conference and your time in Cork!
